Taking Luxury To The Next Level With Luxury Mega Yachts

By Gordon Banks

We all know what luxury yachts are. These are expensive sea vessels that are privately owned by individuals or at times owned by companies for exclusive use of their clients and the owners of these companies and corporation. And these vessels can be classified as either sailing or the so-called motor yachts. But the most striking differences of these vessels as compared to the other vessels out there is the fact that these are exclusive and only a select few one these playthings. But remember that there is still another class that can be placed way above these luxury vessels. These sea toys are more exclusive and of course, more expensive. Just check out these luxury mega yachts and for sure you’ll understand why.

If the typical luxury yachts that can be seen docked in the Caribbean and near Monaco starts from 82 feet and can reach more than 162 feet, the ones called mega in the industry are much more imposing. To fully have an idea, then a quick check on the amenities of the typical sea vessels may be in order. The ordinary yet pricey ones may start at 82 feet, and other may run up to 164 feet. And these vessels usually feature three decks, and some will have four decks. These decks are carefully-arranged and planned, putting visitors and guests in mind. The first deck is where most of the outside action and activities are located. This is the place where most of guests can mingle with each other. The deck two should is considered as the main deck, and this deck is the location of the dining hall and other rooms. The upper deck is for socials as the bars and outdoor dining can be seen here. And finally, there is the sun deck. The place where guests can relax, get a tan or perhaps wait for the setting of the sun. That’s basically what your typical luxury yacht is.

Now the so-called mega ones are a step up from these. The mega ones as they are called are still rare and you can’t easily see them docked in the Caribbean, but its popularity is beginning to soar. These mega ones are those that can measure more than 100 meters or more that 328 feet. One defining factor of these vessels is that these playthings have more decks. The typical mega ones may carry five decks above water, and may even include two more decks just below the water level. Simply put, these properties offer more areas for fun as compared to the rest.

Cinemas, bars and great dining halls are already standard on most luxury yachts. But for the mega ones, then these vessels add a little extra for the guests. Usually these vessels may carry helicopter hangars, more indoor swimming pools and miniature submarines. Simply put, these sea vessels can be considered as the elite of the elite and the cream of the crop. And yes, because of its nature and cost only a few exists out there. And the enthusiasts can be only dream of having one due to its price.

An account of the Esperanza Fire from an animal rescuer

Saturday, December 2, 2006

As families fled their homes in the early morning hours on Thursday October 26, there was no warning. The Esperanza Fire southeast of Los Angeles and West of Palm Springs, California, had ballooned under the influence of Santa Ana winds to more than 19,000 acres as of the morning of October 27. No time to get the animals, no time for crates or even a leash. Sadly, owners left behind not only their horses, lamas, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, but also their dogs and cats.

Many of the families who did manage to evacuate their pets found themselves in the parking lot at the Fellowship in the Pass Church Red Cross Shelter where a MuttShack Animal Rescue team caught up with them.

Pam Anderson, Director of the emergency Red Cross shelter said that many people with animals had come and left.

The air was thick with smoke, and ash was raining down on the parking lot where dog owners, not able to take their dogs into the shelter were camping out in pup tents andin their cars.

Those who could afford it checked themselves into pet friendly hotels in nearby towns.

Some were prepared. Jane Garner, a small dog breeder was able to get all her animals out, and had set up her puppy runs alongside her RV in the parking lot. Others were not doing too well, having left home without as much as a leash.

The same scenario played out at the Red Cross shelter at Hemet High School. Animals were being boarded in vans, trailers and cars and small travel crates.

When MuttShack Animal Rescue arrived, a small fracas had sent several dogs off in different directions, running out of the school parking lot down busy streets necessitating an instant rescue response.

The Incident Command for the Esperanza Animals, Ramona Humane Society in San Jacinto welcomed MuttShack‘s offer to help at the shelters.

Ramona Humane Society had recently published a notice in their Newsletter about the newly passed “PETS Act”and warned owners not wait until a major disaster such as an earthquake or fireto prepare. “Be proactive to ensure that your pet will be taken care of.”

MuttShack and PetSmart Charities set up ad hoc facilities for the animals at both shelters.

The Red Cross shelter, run by Madison Burtchaell of the Orange County Red Cross was very accommodating about allowing a small emergency pet shelter adjacent to the School.

Barbara A. Fought of PetSmart Charities, an organization that works with animal welfare organizations and provide assistance in disasters, provided crates and emergency supplies.

MuttShack and Red Cross volunteers, Martin St. John, Tom Hamilton, and Steve Meissner helped assemble the crates to secure a safe environment for evacuated pets.

It was a great relief for evacuees who had camped out in the parking lot to finally leave their vehicles and relax at the shelter, setting up their cots to grab some sorely needed rest.

Firefighters and residents reported loss of wildlife and animals. The Esperanza fire burned 34 homes, consumed 40,000 acres and cost five Firefighters their lives before it was contained four days later on October 30. Firefighting operations cost nearly $10 million.

MuttShack Animal Rescue is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization active in disasters and dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and care of lost or discarded dogs, cats and other animals.

Dealing With California Statute Of Limitations Debt

By Sean A. Kelly

Tyler King, my friend’s brother is a hard working man. However his ‘Live Life King Size’ formula to life made sure that he got into debt. The fact that he earns a wonderful salary has kept him afloat. Since he has been in debt most of his life and has always paid his dues, he doesn’t remember ever not paying. One afternoon he got a telephone call from a debt collection agency asking him to pay a debt that he had disputed with the company nearly four years ago. As per California Statute of Limitations four years would be the applicable time period for collection of credit card debt. What Tyler did when contacted was that he accepted that there was an unpaid disputed debt that he owed and did not know that his acceptance would refresh the statute of limitation and he was sued by the collection agency.

According to California Statute of Limitations, the time period during which a creditor can sue the debtor in a court of law for credit card debtor open accounts, written contracts and promissory notes is four years, for oral contracts it is two years and for civil judgment it is 10 years from the date of last payment or last usage. In case one is contacted near the end of the statute of limitations time period, it would be advisable not to accept that debt and not to agree to pay the debt or send the creditor any money as it would reset the statute of limitations giving the creditor the right to sue.

In case of being contacted near the expiry of the statute of limitations, it might be prudent to get in touch with a debt relief company to aid resolve the problem. In California debt help might be sought by approaching a debt relief network which would be related to many legal debt businesses. This would provide legal options to deal with one’s debt. In case of a long pending debt as in the case of Tyler, it might be better to either send out a certified letter, return receipt requested for not contacting again regarding the debt due to the expiry of the statute of limitations. However, one must remember that even if the statute of limitations has run on the account and would not be payable after the expiry, the debt would be reported in the credit report.

To get rid of a debt being reported in one’s credit report, the debt would need to be paid. In California debt relief may be sought by approaching certified debt relief companies. Usually it would be advisable for one to look at one’s finances closely and to budget one’s expenditure breaking down one’s income into packets like essential living expenditure like bills, grocery, children’s school fees, compulsory payments towards debt like credit card bills, car loan, mortgage etc. and miscellaneous expenditure like movies, outings, holidays etc. This exercise would help one to understand one’s finances and also be helpful while seeking debt relief help from a professional and reliable debt relief company. It might stand one in good stead to check if the company one approaches for help is a part of a credit resolution network and is a member of the Bureau of Better Business. It would be advisable to check the credentials of the company and research its client base and their experiences so that one may make a prudent decision. One would benefit to beware of fraudsters who might not help one to debt freedom or debt reduction but might lead one to bankruptcy.

Eric Bogosian on writing and the creative urge

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Eric Bogosian is one of America’s great multi-dimensional talents. “There’s sort of three different careers, and any one of them could exist by itself, on its own two feet. There was that solo stuff, and then I started writing plays in the late seventies.” Although his work has spanned genres, most readers will recognize Bogosian for his acting, which has included a memorable performance in Woody Allen‘s Deconstructing Harry to co-writing and starring in the Oliver Stone movie Talk Radio (based upon his Pulitzer Prize-nominated play) to playing the bad guy in Under Siege 2 to his current role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent as Captain Danny Ross. They may not know, however, that he had collaborated with Frank Zappa on a album, worked with Sonic Youth, and was a voice on Mike Judge‘s Beavis & Butthead Do America. He started one of New York City’s largest dance companies, The Kitchen, which is still in existence. He starred alongside Val Kilmer in Wonderland and his play Talk Radio was recently revived on Broadway with Liev Schreiber in the role Bogosian wrote and made famous.

Currently at work on his third novel, tentatively titled The Artist, Bogosian spoke with David Shankbone about the craft of writing and his life as a creative.

Mumbai officials demolish 39K shanties; 200K homeless

December 25, 2004

Officials in Mumbai, India, demolished over 6,000 shanties today in a push to eradicate the capital city’s slums. In total, 39,000 shanties have been flattened, displacing over 200,000 people, in the city’s biggest-ever demolition drive, which began in early December.

When complete, over 2 million people are expected to be displaced. After wiping out the least desirable shanties, next in line for demolition are the illegal ‘well-off’ shanties and neighborhoods, according to the legal and bureaucratic motions that have been executed toward cleaning up Mumbai’s appearance by lowering the dominance of shanties, which make up 62 percent of Mumbai’s housing.

“As far as eye can see, there are mounds of wood, tin and tarpaulin, the remains of 6,200 illegal homes, flattened by a heavy excavator running on tank-like tracks and giant motorised claws,” the Indian Express reported about today’s destruction. [1]

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said that citizens would see a change within six months. “Every chief minister likes to be remembered, and I’m no exception,” said Deshmukh, who despite having an empty exchequer, also announced that Rs 31,000 crore will be spent on new roads, sea links and rail lines. Wikinews interviews spokesman for Greek far-left party Xekinima

Monday, May 3, 2010

Wikinews reporter Iain Macdonald today interviewed Petros Tzomakas, a Greek far-left activist and member of Xekinima, which is the Greek division of the Committee for a Workers’ International. The party is a member of Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA).

Tzomakas also sits on his local 5th Athens Municipal District committee, which is a joint effort by left-wing parties including SYRIZA, the Anticapitalist Left Cooperation for the Overthrow and a number of other political parties to oppose austerity measures proposed by the government. All left-wing parties in the country except the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) are involved. Tzomakas explained that the KKE prefers not to co-operate with other radical left-wing groups.

The interview comes amid tensions in cash-strapped Greece, where the government is introducing controversial austerity measures to try to ease the nation’s debt-problem. An international rescue package has been prepared by European Union member states and the International Monetary Fund – should Greece require a bailout; protests have been held against government attempts to manage the economic situation.
