Automobile manufacturer Toyota triples annual loss prediction

Sunday, February 8, 2009

The Japanese car making company Toyota has announced that their predicted profit loss for 2008 has tripled from their previous estimate. The company reports the loss after demand for its vehicles dropped. In December 2008, Toyota estimated its full year operating loss to be 150 billion yen (US$1.65 billion). Now the company has tripled that number, forecasting a 450 billion yen (US$4.95 billion) loss. This would be the first yearly loss at Toyota in 70 years.

The firm also said that it predicts its global sales to fall by 17.87% to 7.32 million vehicles sold, compared to last year’s 8.91 million vehicles sold. Overall for 2008, Toyota’s car sales in the United States were down 15.4%, but that number was down from 2007 in which sales dropped 18%. For the month of January alone, Toyota’s sales fell 31.7% compared to the overall U.S. sales loss of 37.1%.

As a result of the loss, 17 of the company’s 75 production lines worldwide, will be reduced to only a single shift of workers. The company also announced a full closure of all their Japanese plants for a total of 14 days between January and March 2009.

Toyota’s boss Katsuaki Watanabe described the loss as happening only “once in a hundred years”.

In January, the Japanese Nikkei newspaper said that Toyota was thinking of firing 1,000 Northern American and British workers, all of whom hold full-time positions in the company. The paper quoted Toyota’s Executive Vice President Mitsuo Kinoshita as saying that “outside of Japan, we intend to make every possible effort to protect the jobs of our employees.”

Advice About Psychic Phone Readings}

Submitted by: Ross Bainbridge

Not sure what youre looking for? There is something for everyone. Do you favor a clairvoyant or a medium, Tarot cards or the I-Ching, the expertise of an astrologer or numerologist, or a spiritual guide to assist you through prayers and meditation, theres something for everyone seeking psychic readings by phone.

Once youve explored the variety of psychic phone readings available, the next step is to decide what area of your life would most benefit from the advice of a psychic. Do you have questions about romance or a relationship, money issues or a career decision, health and healing, the well being of your beloved pet, or curiosity about future events?

Keep in mind; psychic phone readings are for entertainment purposes only. Information provided during psychic phone readings should not replace professional medical advice or therapeutic counseling.

An accepting mind is vital for psychic phone readings. The message is for you and you alone to interpret and relate the meaning to the query you initially presented to the psychic on the phone. Psychics believe the key is to trust yourself because you have free will and can always change the direction of your life, despite the reading you receive. Just enjoy your reading and the advice as it is given.

The length of psychic phone readings will depend on your relationship with the psychic, but the minimum reading is usually 15 to 20 minutes with the average ranging from 30 to 45 minutes.

Introductory rates can be as low as $1 per minute with some calls rating almost $10 per minute. Some providers decrease the cost per minute as the minutes increase for returning customers. Confirm the rate information before you connect for psychic readings by phone. For an additional fee, an audio cassette recording of the actual reading can be mailed to you for each of your psychic readings by phone.

A clear and relaxed state of mind is the best way to maximize the results of psychic phone readings. Focus on two or three important questions you are seeking advice about and try to eliminate other distracting thoughts before connecting with a phone psychic. Whenever possible, turn the television and radio off and make the call from a quiet room without distractions or interruptions. Avoid doing daily chores such as washing dishes and the laundry during your consultation with a phone psychic.

Be prepared to take notes to follow up on the information given by the phone psychic and keep an open mind to the possibility of looking at your life and current situation from a new perspective. If you feel the phone psychic advice youre receiving is not applicable in any way to your question, politely thank the psychic advisor and hang up as soon as possible.

Mexico authorities find over four dozen corpses

Monday, May 14, 2012

Authorities in Mexico have discovered 49 headless and dismembered dead bodies abandoned on the side of a road at the entryway to San Juan, a town located within Cadereyta Jiménez municipality. The bodies, six female and the other 43 male, were discovered by police at approximately 0400 CDT (0900 UTC) yesterday.

Speaking on behalf for security in the state of Nuevo León, Jorge Domene said, “We know from the characteristics that this is the result of violence between criminal gangs,” clarifying that this was not “an attack on the civilian population”. A spray-painted notice that read “100% Zeta,” referring to the Los Zetas drug cartel, was sighted on an archway where the incident occurred and is a sign that killings were linked to a dispute between drug cartels. Domene said the sign is typically a method Los Zetas uses when it takes responsibility.

Adrian de la Garza, a state prosecutor, has commented on the possibility of the individuals being killed as long ago as Friday and in a different location from where the bodies were discovered. He said he is still considering the possibility of those killed being migrants from Central America who intended to travel to the United States.

Both Domene and de la Garza said identification of the bodies will be difficult because the bodies were found headless and with their extremities removed. The corpses have been referred to the city of Monterrey for DNA profiling.

According to BBC News Online, Los Zetas is in a conflict with the Sinaloa Cartel and Gulf Cartel over drug transportation paths leading towards the United States, with all cartels attempting to gain control of the road paths. The road on which the discovery was made lies between Monterrey in the state of Nuevo León and the city of Reynosa, located close to the Mexico–United States border, in the state of Tamaulipas. National Autonomous University of Mexico security expert Raul Benitez Manaut described the conflict between the cartels as “the most definitive of all the cartel wars”.

On Wednesday, a discovery of a similar nature occurred when eighteen beheaded and mutilated corpses were discovered within two deserted vehicles near the city of Guadalajara. In a separate incident on May 4, 23 corpses were found in the city of Nuevo Laredo, fourteen of which were without heads. Over 47,500 fatalities have been recorded since the commencement of the Mexican Drug War in December 2006.

2006 U.S. Congressional Elections

Wednesday, November 8, 2006

As of 10:00 p.m EST November 8, 2006, the Democratic Party is projected to have gained control of both the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate in the 2006 United States general elections. MSNBC projects that the Democrats now control 234 seats in the House of Representatives, 16 more seats than the 218 needed to control the House of Representatives as all 435 seats were up for election. In the Senate, where the balance of power is closer, one-third of all seats were up for grab. As of 10:00 p.m. EST, AP and Reuters were projecting that the Democrats had picked up all six seats they needed to retake the Senate, including the seats of incumbents Rick Santorum (Penn.), Lincoln Chafee (R.I.), Jim Talent (Missouri), Mike DeWine (Ohio), Jon Tester (Montana), and Jim Webb (VA). The Tester victory by less than 3,000 votes was projected at approximately 2 p.m. EST after the State of Montana announced the results of overnight recounts. Democrat Jim Webb has prevailed in that race by slightly more than 7,000 votes, though his opponent has not conceded and a recount may still occur.

Need To Help Your Office Go Green? Use These 10 Tips

Are you interested in saving the planet while at work? If so, check out these 10 tips to help your office go green:

  1. Make recycling easy for yourself and your colleagues.Place recycling bins around the office so people can properly dispose of their paper, pop cans, plastic containers, and so on. The more bins there are, the more likely it is people will use them.
  2. Invest in energy-saving office machines. There are now a lot of machines on the market that are designed to be energy-efficient. These include paper shredders, photocopiers, computers, etc. Some of these devices will shut down on their own so not only will they save power, they’ll help you save money on your utility bills.
  3. Use eco-friendly supplies. Many of the supplies that you and your colleagues use on a regular basis can be substituted with items made from recycled or biodegradable material. You can use recycled printer/copier paper, folders, and so on. You can stock your break room and bathrooms with environmentally friendly soap and use green cleaning supplies. Whatever supplies you need for your workplace, chances are there’s an earth-friendly equivalent.
  4. Use public transportation. No matter how many or how few employees there are in your company, if everyone drives to work that’s going to do some major damage to the environment. Encourage people to use public transit in your area so your company can reduce its carbon footprint.
  5. Embrace telecommuting.Another way to keep people out of their cars is by having them telecommute. Technology has made it easier than ever for people to keep in touch, so you and your colleagues can get a full day’s work done from the comfort of home.
  6. Encourage people to carpool. If using public transportation isn’t an option, you can encourage your co-workers to carpool. This cuts down on the number of cars on the road, fights pollution, and can help people save money on gas, which is always getting more expensive.
  7. Do away with paper. Many of today’s offices are going paperless thanks to the Internet, etc. Storing your files on a hard drive or a secure server will greatly cut down on how much paper you use, which will have a sizeable impact on the planet.
  8. Use a paper shredder. One of the best ways to prepare paper for recycling is by shredding it. After the machine’s waste bag is full, just tie it off, and put it out for recycling. Also, shredding your documents will help reduce the possibility of identity theft and lawsuits because your company’s information will stay private.
  9. Recycle your old computers. There are many organizations that recycle old computers. Be sure to look up the one in your area so you can get rid of those old dinosaurs without banishing them to the landfill.
  10. Shop at local businesses. Finally, if you can get some of your office staples from local businesses, make sure to do so. This cuts down on pollution, will save you money on shipping costs, and can help keep a local business from going under during this rough economic time.

These 10 tips can help your office go green. Be sure to give them a try today so you can do your part to save the planet.

State Farm Insurance allegedly destroying papers

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

Zach Scruggs, a lawyer for United States Senator Trent Lott, says that State Farm Insurance Company is destroying records related to claims for damage from Hurricane Katrina.

The records allegedly contain information saying that State Farm fraudulently denied insurance claims made by its policy holders, including Lott, that had homes there were damaged or destroyed when Hurricane Katrina came ashore on the Gulf Coast.

Scruggs said that Lott has “good faith belief” that many employees of the insurance company in Biloxi, Mississippi are destroying engineer’s reports that were inconclusive as to whether or not water or wind was the main cause of damage to the buildings affected by the hurricane.

Lott is among thousands of home and/or business owners who had their property damaged or destroyed during the hurricane and had their claims denied because State Farm claimed that their policies don’t cover damage caused by floods or water that was driven by the wind.

State Farm has not issued a statement on the matter so far.

A Look At A Skin Doctor

A skin doctor is another name for a dermatologist. These healthcare specialists have education and expertise in caring for skin that is normal and healthy as well as in caring for skin that has problems. Skin care doctors prevent and treat numerous skin conditions such as psoriasis, warts, rosacea and forms of skin cancer. Dermatologists do not just deal with skin disorders, but also with disorders that affect the nails and the hair. Those who are suffering from hair loss, nail fungus or scars can be referred to a skin doctor to be diagnosed and treated for the problem at hand. If you need to locate a dermatologist for a skin, hair or nail problem that you have developed, then your general practitioner can refer you to a professional or can recommend someone to you. Another place to look would be the American Academy of Dermatology because they keep lists of doctors that are board certified. Still another resource is to place a call to a local medical school that is within a university setting and ask for names and recommendations of dermatologists. When you do come across a dermatologist or two who seems to fit your criteria, there are certain questions that you need to ask of him or her. These questions include: -What types of health insurance do you accept?-Can you provide patient references? -If I have a problem, can I get an appointment on short notice? -Does your office offer evening hours or weekend hours?-Do you specialize in a particular area of dermatology? -How many patients have you performed this specific procedure on? To become a skin doctor, a physician must spend approximately three years following graduation from medical school in getting further education in disorders that affect the skin, nails and hair. They also are trained to perform surgical procedures on the skin and other related procedures. You have probably been told in the past that you should only go to board certified doctors. While board certification does matter, it is by no means a guarantee that the doctor in question will be a good skin doctor. What it does demonstrate is that the medical practitioner completed the training that was required and has acquired the knowledge that was necessary to pass the required examination. For your own peace of mind you can easily verify that a dermatologist has received board certification by visiting the American Board of Dermatology website. When you are looking for a dermatologist to tend to the skin, hair or nail condition that you have developed, you need to research the speciality of every doctor who looks of interest to you. The area of expertise is important to finding the physician who can provide you with the right type of treatment. The vast majority of dermatologists are able to diagnose and treat most skin problems but some choose to obtain additional certifications for specific areas of the medical discipline. Examples of the specialist certifications that a skin care physician can obtain include clinical and laboratory dermatological immunology, pediatric dermatology, and dermatopathology.

Wikinews interviews 2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor Candidate Wayne Tseng

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Thursday, October 22, 2020

2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor candidate Wayne Tseng answered some questions about his campaign for the upcoming election from Wikinews. The Lord Mayor election in the Australian city is scheduled to take place this week.

Tseng runs a firm called eTranslate, which helps software developers to make the software available to the users. In the candidate’s questionnaire, Tseng said eTranslate had led to him working with all three tiers of the government. He previously belonged to the Australian Liberal Party, but has left since then, to run for mayorship as an independent candidate.

Tseng is of Chinese descent, having moved to Australia with his parents from Vietnam. Graduated in Brisbane, Tseng received his PhD in Melbourne and has been living in the city, he told Wikinews. Tseng also formed Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce, an organisation responsible for many “community bond building initiatives”, the Lord Mayor candidate told Wikinews.

Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.

Tseng’s deputy Lord Mayor candidate Gricol Yang is a Commercial Banker and works for ANZ Banking Group.

Currently, Sally Capp is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the Victorian capital. Capp was elected as an interim Lord Mayor in mid-2018 after the former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations. Doyle served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for almost a decade since 2008.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/AL-KY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.
